Personal accounts: Lawyers

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Is it harder for a lawyer to open a personal account abroad?
Harder than for a salaried employee, easier than for a company. The core question is practice income: the bank wants to see regularity, client countries and a clean tax picture. Public roles and exposure to politically exposed persons add further questions.
How do I evidence income from private practice?
Tax returns, practice accounts, engagement letters and firm statements showing partner drawings or fee payments all work. The classic reason for refusal is mixing personal and client money in the same narrative. Keep the flows separate before you apply.
Can I take client fees into my personal account?
Technically sometimes, but it is bad practice: the bank sees third party credits with no clear basis and starts a review. In many jurisdictions professional rules require client money to be held separately anyway. Fees belong in a practice account, not a personal one.
Is a lawyer's account reported under CRS?
Yes, personal accounts are reported like anyone else's, with the data going to the holder's country of tax residence. Professional status gives no exemption. Plan on the basis that your tax authority can see the account.
