When is the best time to visit Moscow?

May to September is warm and bright, with the embankments, parks and terraces alive and near-white evenings in June. Winter is cold, often -10C or below, but the city looks its best under lights and snow. April and November are the flattest months.

How many days do you need in Moscow?

Four or five for the essentials: the Kremlin and Red Square, the Tretyakov, GUM, Gorky Park and a ride around the metro's circle line just for the stations. The city is huge but the metro is fast and the centre is walkable. With a week you can add the estate museums and a day trip to Suzdal or Sergiev Posad.

Is Moscow safe and do foreign cards work?

Street crime is low, the centre is calm at night and the metro runs late. The practical problem for foreigners is money: Visa and Mastercard issued outside Russia do not work, so you need cash and an exchange plan. Direct flights from many countries are gone, and routes usually go via Istanbul, Dubai or Yerevan.
