When is the best time to visit Muscat?

November to March sits around 25-30C and suits the city, the wadis and the desert. May to September can pass 40C with high humidity, which rules out walking during the day. Ramadan changes opening hours and the rhythm of the city, and its dates move each year.

How many days do you need in Muscat?

Three or four: the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the Royal Opera House, Mutrah souq and corniche, and the National Museum. Add a couple more for Nizwa, the wadis and the Wahiba Sands. A rental car makes sense, since the city is stretched out along the coast.

Is Oman safe for tourists?

Oman is one of the calmest countries in the region, with very little street crime. What matters more is respecting local norms: cover shoulders and knees, women need a headscarf for the mosque, and alcohol is limited to licensed venues. Public displays of affection and photographing people without asking are not welcome.

Can foreigners move to Oman?

The standard route is a work visa sponsored by a local employer. There is also an investor residency programme, issued for several years at a time through property or other investment, with terms that get revised periodically. Citizenship for foreigners is very rare, there is no personal income tax, and English is widely used in daily life and business.
