Is it hard to visit Turkmenistan?

Yes, it is one of the most closed countries in the world. Tourist visas are issued on an invitation from a licensed local agency, travel follows an approved itinerary with a guide, and refusals are routine. There is also a short transit visa, but that is far from guaranteed either; rules change without notice, so allow months of lead time.

What is there to see in Ashgabat?
