Jamaica has a high violent crime rate, but it is heavily concentrated in specific neighbourhoods. Visitors usually stay around New Kingston and the uptown area near Devon House, and go downtown or to Trench Town by day with a guide. Nobody walks at night here - you book a car rather than take a route taxi.

When is the best time to visit Kingston?

It is warm all year, with daytime highs of 27-32. December to April is drier and more comfortable. Hurricane season runs June to November and peaks from August to October, so flexible tickets are worth it in that window.

How many days do you need in Kingston?
