Niamey is calmer than the rest of Niger, but the country has been under military rule since 2023 and much of it carries a real risk of kidnapping and armed attack. Best time to visit Niamey?

November to February is the least punishing stretch, though the harmattan wind can fill the sky with dust for weeks. March to June is brutally hot, with daytime highs regularly above 40C. The rains run roughly June to September in short heavy bursts that leave the roads torn up.

What language is spoken in Niger?
