FAQ

How do you get to Samoa?
Only with a connection: the main gateways are Auckland, Sydney, Nadi in Fiji and Honolulu. From Europe the trip takes over a day and costs a lot, so Samoa is usually combined with New Zealand or other islands. Faleolo International Airport is about 40 minutes from Apia.
When is the best time to visit Samoa?
The drier, more comfortable stretch runs roughly from May to October. November to April is hotter and wetter, with heavy downpours and cyclone risk. Rain is possible year round anyway, it is just usually short and warm.
How many days do you need in Apia?
The capital itself is small: the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum, the cathedral, Maketi Fou market and Palolo Deep Marine Reserve fill about a day. The rest of Upolu is the real draw - waterfalls, lava coastline, Papase'ea Sliding Rocks and beaches. Give the island at least a week, otherwise the long flight is hard to justify.
Can you move to Samoa?
Arriving is easier than staying: many nationalities get an entry permit on arrival for a limited period, but long-term life runs into small-island reality - few jobs, expensive imported goods and limited healthcare. Most land is held under customary title and cannot be sold to foreigners, so buying a house is not the straightforward transaction it is elsewhere. Immigration and land rules here are unusual, so check the current ones before making plans.
