Is Dodoma worth visiting?

Dodoma is Tanzania's official capital but sees very few tourists: parliament, Nyerere Square, the Bahai House of Worship, the geology museum and Lion Rock are the shortlist. Most travellers pass through between Dar es Salaam and the northern safari circuit. Do not expect resort infrastructure, this is an administrative city on the plateau.

When is the best time to visit Dodoma?

It is dry from around June to October, which is also the best safari season in the country. Rains fall between November and May, usually as short heavy bursts. The climate is semi arid and hot by day, though the altitude of about 1,100 metres takes the edge off.

How do you get to Dodoma?

Buses and trains run from Dar es Salaam and take most of a day. There is an airport with domestic flights, but the schedule is limited. In town, boda-boda motorbike taxis and ride hailing apps where available are the practical options.
