Is Suva worth visiting?

Suva is the administrative and university capital of Fiji rather than a resort: a working port, colonial era buildings, the excellent Fiji Museum and a busy municipal market. There are no beaches here; those are on the western side and out in the Yasawa and Mamanuca islands. As a cultural stop of a day or two it works well.

Why does it rain so much in Suva?

Suva sits on the windward southeastern side of Viti Levu and gets several times more rain than the dry western side around Nadi. Showers are possible in any month, usually short and heavy. The drier, cooler stretch runs roughly from May to October, which is also outside cyclone season.
