Seasons are flipped: spring from October to November and autumn from March to May are the best months. January and February are hot, humid and half-empty as locals head to the coast. Winter, June to August, is cool and damp but rarely freezing.

Recoleta, Palermo, Puerto Madero and San Telmo are fine by day with normal caution. The main risk is phone and bag snatching, so avoid Retiro, Constitución and La Boca beyond the Caminito strip, especially after dark. App taxis are cheap enough to be the default at night.
