Argentina is a country with a rich history, spectacular nature and a high standard of living. One of the largest economies in South America, it offers free education, affordable healthcare and a welcoming atmosphere for foreigners.

Legal grounds

Who gets citizenship

Any child born on Argentine territory automatically becomes a citizen of the country.

Citizenship for the parents

Once the child is born, the parents can apply for permanent residence straight away. Without waiting for it to be issued, they can also file for citizenship. An application is reviewed in 1-2 years.

The parents' legal status

There are no special requirements for legal status in the country: for foreigners a tourist visa is enough, if one is needed to enter at all. Russian citizens can stay in Argentina without a visa for 90 days.

Citizenship for the other children

After the birth, the parents can also apply for permanent residence for their other children under 18. Older children receive an Argentine passport when they turn 18 - there is no requirement to be of age at the time of filing: parents can apply for a child's citizenship before the child comes of age.

Other relatives

Grandparents can apply for a residence permit under the family reunification program. For citizenship they need to live in Argentina for 2 years on a residence permit before filing an application.

Foreigners travelling to the country to give birth need a tourist visa if their country has no visa-free agreement with Argentina. Russian citizens can stay in Argentina without a visa for 90 days.
