Best time to visit Helsinki?

June to August, when it barely gets dark, terraces are open and ferries run out to the islands - the obvious choice for a first trip. December is lovely for the Christmas markets, but daylight is short and dusk arrives mid-afternoon. Shoulder season is cheaper, at the cost of damp and wind.

Is Helsinki expensive?

Yes, it is a costly Nordic city: coffee, lunch and taxis run well above Eastern European prices, and so does rent. Supermarkets, weekday lunch deals and public transport instead of taxis take the edge off. The ferry to Suomenlinna is covered by an ordinary transit ticket, which makes it the best value in town.

How many days do you need in Helsinki?

Two or three: Senate Square and the Cathedral, Uspenski Cathedral, the Ateneum, the Design Museum and half a day at Suomenlinna fortress. The city is compact, the centre is walkable and trams cover the rest. Many people add a day-trip ferry to Tallinn.

Can you move to Finland?

The main legal routes are a work-based residence permit, including specialist tracks, study, and the startup permit for founders, all of which eventually open up mobility within the EU. There is no investment residency in the usual sense, and the language will matter sooner or later, particularly for citizenship.
