Personal accounts: Finland

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

Prices are indicative and cover our work on a typical case. We confirm the exact quote in writing after a short call - you know the final number before we start. Government fees and bank tariffs are billed separately unless explicitly included.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in Finland?
In practice, almost never. Access to banking runs through the Finnish personal identity code and strong electronic identification, both of which come with registered residence. A non-resident with no basis for living in the country will be turned down.
Do I need a Finnish personal identity code for an account?
Yes. Full banking service requires a henkilotunnus and bank identification credentials. You get them by registering in the population information system when you move, study or work there. Without them you are limited to stripped-down products at best.
Do EU citizens have a right to an account in Finland?
Yes. Under EU basic payment account rules, anyone legally resident in the EU is entitled to a basic account, and a bank can only refuse on defined grounds such as inability to identify you or sanctions risk. The right does not extend to credit or premium products. Identification is still mandatory.
Do I need to prove source of funds in Finland?
Yes. At onboarding and on significant transactions the bank asks where the money came from and wants documents - payslips, an asset sale contract, inheritance papers. Declining to answer leads to restricted transactions. This is an EU-wide standard, not one bank's quirk.
