Lilongwe is a quiet, green and very spread-out capital without a long list of sights. What there is: the Old Town and Lizulu markets, the wildlife centre, Kumbali Cultural Village and the government quarter on Capital Hill. Most travellers treat it as a staging post on the way to Lake Malawi and the national parks.

When is the best time to visit Malawi?

The dry season from May to October is the best window. May to July brings cool evenings, since the city sits at about 1050 metres, and by October it turns hot. Rains run November to April, when dirt roads in rural areas wash out.

Is Lilongwe safe?
