Best time to visit Sarajevo?

May to October: warm, green, mountain trails open. Winter brings cheap skiing at Jahorina and Bjelasnica, but the city sits in a valley and can fill with heavy smog. Even July and August stay bearable thanks to the altitude.

Is Sarajevo safe?

For visitors, yes - street crime is low and Bascarsija is calm in the evening. The one real warning is to stay on marked trails in the hills, as demining after the war is still ongoing and risk areas are signposted. There is no mine risk in the city itself.

Is Sarajevo cheap?

It is one of the most affordable cities in Europe: coffee, burek and cevapi cost very little, and rent and transport sit well below EU levels. The convertible mark is pegged to the euro at a fixed rate, which keeps the mental maths simple.

Is Bosnia a good place to move to?

The upsides are low costs, superb nature and 90-day visa-free entry on many passports. The downsides are a thin job market, a layered administrative system and slow bureaucracy. Residence permits usually run through employment, your own company, study or family, and naturalisation takes years, with rules subject to change.
