Best time to visit Sofia?

May to June and September to October - warm without the summer glare. Winter is grey in town, but Vitosha mountain and its slopes are half an hour from the centre. August can be hot, and half the city is at the seaside anyway.

Is Sofia cheap?

One of the most affordable capitals in the EU: meals, transport and rent cost less than in western Europe, though central prices have crept up. The country switched to the euro in 2026, so there is no lev conversion to do any more. Public transport costs next to nothing.
