Personal accounts: Bulgaria

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a foreigner open a bank account in Bulgaria?
Yes, Bulgarian banks do open accounts for non-residents on a foreign passport, but policies vary and some ask for a Bulgarian personal number or address. A branch visit is normally required. A refusal without stated reasons is always possible.
Do I need a residence permit?
Not necessarily. That said, residency, a property purchase, studies or a job significantly improve your odds, because the bank wants a reason for you to bank in Bulgaria specifically. EU citizens and people legally resident in the EU can rely on the EU basic payment account rules.
What is the minimum balance and what does it cost?
Minimum balances are usually modest, but non-residents face separate maintenance and transaction fees. Bulgarian banks publish their tariffs, so compare them before you choose. The real cost tends to sit in international transfers and cash withdrawals.
Is the account reported under CRS?
Yes. Bulgaria is an EU member applying CRS and the intra-EU DAC exchange, so account data goes to the tax authority where you are resident. Opening an account in the EU does not create tax privacy.
