Business accounts: Bulgaria

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a company account in Bulgaria?
Yes, usually through a Bulgarian company (EOOD or OOD) with a local address. A foreign entity with no Bulgarian footprint is nearly always refused. A non-resident owner is fine in principle, but expect more questions and more paperwork.
Do I need an account for share capital?
Yes. At incorporation the capital goes into a subscription account and the bank issues a certificate for the commercial register. The statutory capital for a standard EOOD is nominal, so this is largely a formality. The operating account comes afterwards as a separate process with full compliance review.
What does the bank ask for?
Commercial register documents, the articles, UBO details, directors' passports, a business description, expected turnover, counterparty countries, contracts and the source of capital. Bulgaria applies EU anti-money-laundering rules, so the depth of review matches other EU states. Owners from higher-risk countries face longer checks and more refusals.
What changed when Bulgaria joined the euro?
Since 1 January 2026 Bulgaria is in the euro area: accounts are held in euro and payments with EU partners run through SEPA without conversion. That removes lev/euro exchange risk and cuts payment costs. It changes nothing about compliance requirements.
