Lithuania is a beautiful country in Northern Europe with a rich history and culture, and a member of the European Union and the Schengen area. The repatriation program gives descendants of Lithuanian emigrants the chance to obtain citizenship by descent and keep the connection with their ancestral country.

Legal basis

The Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania allows people to claim citizenship if their ancestors - parents, grandparents or earlier forebears - were born or lived on the territory of Lithuania before 1940 and were forced to leave the country because of external circumstances. This applies first of all to descendants of Lithuanian emigrants who left during and after the Second World War.

Who can claim citizenship

  • Descendants of Lithuanian citizens who lived on the territory of the country before 1940.
  • People whose ancestors left the country because of occupation, political repression or other historical circumstances.
  • Descendants of Lithuanian Jews who suffered in the Holocaust or other persecutions.

The exact grounds and the list of documents depend on your family history. On a free consultation we check whether the program fits you.
