Business accounts: Portugal

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can I open a Portuguese company account remotely?
Some banks accept filings through a local lawyer holding a power of attorney, but most still want the director or beneficial owner in the branch at least once. A common stopgap is an EU payment institution with an IBAN, then a bank account once you travel. The bank makes the final call either way.
Do I need a resident director in Portugal?
The law does not require one - a Lda can be run entirely by non-residents. Banks, however, look for a genuine link to the country: a local address, contracts, clients, staff. No link at all is one of the most common reasons an application fails.
What documents does the bank ask for?
Company registration extract and articles, the company NIF, beneficial ownership filed in the RCBE, a description of the business, expected turnover, counterparty countries and the source of the capital. A clear, evidenced business model speeds everything up.
What if the bank turns us down?
Refusals are rarely explained. A second bank with a different risk appetite, a sharper business description and better source-of-funds evidence usually change the outcome. An EMI account keeps you trading meanwhile, but it does not replace a bank for large payments or credit.
