Business accounts: Romania

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a foreigner open a business account in Romania?
Yes, an SRL with foreign shareholders is routine and banks do open accounts for them. Expect to hand over the ONRC registration extract, articles, tax number, beneficial ownership details and a description of the business. The authorised signatory normally signs in the branch.
Do I need a local director in Romania?
Not legally - a non-resident can be the administrator of an SRL. Banks still test the connection to Romania: an office, staff, local counterparties, tax registration. Shell-looking companies get declined far more often.
How long does it take to open a company account?
With a complete file and an in-person visit, a basic account is often live within a few working days. Foreign beneficial owners and layered structures push it into weeks. No bank commits to a timeline.
Can we just use a payment provider instead of a bank?
An EU EMI gives you an IBAN and works for day-to-day payments, but not every authority or counterparty treats it as equivalent to a bank. For VAT handling, card acquiring and credit you will still want a Romanian bank account.

Don’t want to figure this out alone?
