Business accounts: Sierra Leone

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can I open a business account in Sierra Leone?
Yes, if the company is registered locally and someone represents it on the ground: banks serve mining, trading, contractors and NGOs. For cross-border work the sector is weak - few correspondents, scarce foreign currency, slow payments.
Do I need a local director or presence?
No resident director is required by law, but in practice you need a signatory on the ground with a local address and phone number. Remote account opening is not available.
What does the bank ask for?
Registration documents, tax number, sector licences, beneficial ownership and source-of-funds evidence. The AML framework looks standard on paper, but checks are manual and timelines vary.
How do we receive payments from abroad?
The common setup is a local account for payroll, taxes and suppliers, with inbound foreign currency routed through a bank in another country. Mobile money is widely used domestically but does not solve cross-border payments.
