Business accounts: Spain

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a foreign company open a bank account in Spain?
It is possible, but the bank wants to see a real link to Spain: clients, contracts, property, staff. Companies with no economic connection to the country are refused more often than approved, so opening the account through a Spanish entity such as an S.L. is usually simpler.
Do I need an NIE to open a company account in Spain?
Yes. The company needs a NIF and the directors and beneficial owners need an NIE or at least a Spanish identification record. Without those numbers the bank cannot even set you up as a client.
Do I have to travel to Spain to open a business account?
Usually yes - a signatory attends the branch with corporate documents, sworn translations and apostilles. A notarised power of attorney sometimes works, but the bank keeps the right to insist on meeting a real person.
Why do Spanish banks refuse company accounts?
Common reasons are unclear or high-risk activity, no connection to Spain, long ownership chains, heavy cash turnover and sanctions or reputational exposure. The bank does not have to explain itself, and it can close the account later if your answers to its questions do not satisfy compliance.
