Can a foreigner open a company account in Uzbekistan?

Yes, once you have a local entity or a branch. Banks open both som and foreign currency accounts against the charter, tax number, the director's appointment order and specimen signatures.

Do I need a local director?

A foreign director is allowed but needs proper work authorisation and has to be present to sign and register a specimen signature. Many companies appoint a local signatory purely for convenience.

How long does it take?

With a complete file the account itself is opened within days. The real timeline is company registration, the tax number and getting signatures certified.

Are there currency controls?

The som is convertible, but foreign currency operations come with documentary control: contracts, invoices and customs declarations are requested, and export or import deals are registered. Prepare the paperwork before the payment, not after.
