Legal basis for the residence permit
An investor has three ways to get a Hungarian residence permit:
- Investment in a real estate fund - from €250,000. At least 40% of the fund's assets must be held in Hungarian residential property. The investment has to be kept for at least 5 years to retain residence status.
- Purchase of residential property - from €500,000. The property cannot be sold for five years, but it can be rented out. This route opens on 1 January 2026.
- Donation to a state charitable foundation - from €1,000,000.
