Personal accounts: Hungary

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in Hungary?
Yes, Hungarian banks do serve foreigners including non-residents, though requirements differ from bank to bank. Expect to show a passport, proof of address, sometimes a Hungarian tax identifier, and to explain what the account is for. Some nationalities face restrictions and applications can be declined without reasons.
Do I need residency or a Hungarian address for an account?
A residence permit is not formally required, but an address and a demonstrable link to the country make everything easier. EU citizens have a smoother path than third country nationals. An address card and a tax number open up more banks and more products.
Can I open a Hungarian bank account remotely?
Some banks and fintech providers offer video identification, but the choice for a non-resident is limited. Traditional banks usually insist on a branch visit. A fully remote route is not guaranteed.
Does Hungary report accounts under CRS?
Yes, Hungary participates in CRS and applies FATCA, so data on accounts of tax non-residents is exchanged. The forint floats, so treat currency risk on balances as a separate question. Tax is due under the rules of your own residency.
