FAQ

Can a foreigner open an account for a Hungarian company?
Yes - a non-resident can own a Hungarian Kft and serve as its managing director; incorporation goes through a lawyer. The bank will want the register extract, the founding documents, the company tax number and beneficial owner details. Owners from outside the EU get a longer review.
Do I need a Hungarian resident director?
No such requirement exists. The bank will still look for a genuine link to Hungary - an office, staff, local customers or suppliers - and its absence raises questions. A purely virtual company managed from abroad may be declined.
Do I have to travel to Hungary to open a company account?
Usually yes, the signatory attends the branch. Some banks accept signing under a power of attorney or before a notary abroad with an apostille, but terms vary. Plan for the trip.
Why bank a company in Hungary?
The usual reasons are doing business inside the EU, settling in forint with local partners, and the lowest corporate tax rate in the EU. A low rate alone will not open an account - the bank wants economic logic behind the business. Also keep place of effective management rules in mind.
