The Nomad Residence Permit is Malta's residence visa for foreign nationals who work remotely or are shareholders or partners in a company registered outside the country.

Visa requirements

  • Who can apply. Foreign nationals who work for, or are shareholders or partners in, a company registered outside Malta.
  • Period of validity. Up to one year with the possibility of renewal.
  • Minimum income. Proof of an annual income of at least €42,000 gross - roughly €3,500 a month (the threshold in force since 1 April 2024), plus an additional 20% of the median wage for each dependent.
  • Taxes. Personal income tax at rates from 0% to 35%.

Cost of living in Malta

Estimated monthly expenses for a family are about €2,800 excluding rent, and about €800 for a single person excluding rent. Renting a one-bedroom apartment in the city centre starts from €900 a month.
