Personal accounts: Australia

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in Australia?
Several large banks let you apply before you move, under migrant and student programmes. To actually use the account you normally have to visit a branch with your passport after arrival. Opening and running an account without ever entering the country is unrealistic for most non-residents.
Do I need a visa to open an Australian bank account?
The account is tied to identity verification and an address rather than to a visa, but banks do ask about your status. If you are arriving on a visa the process is standard; with no connection to the country it is difficult. Requirements vary by bank.
Do I need a TFN for an Australian bank account?
You can open an account without a tax file number, but without a TFN the bank withholds tax on interest at a high rate. Non-residents are subject to withholding tax on interest income instead. Declare your status to the bank correctly from the start.
Does Australia report bank accounts under CRS?
Yes, Australia takes part in the automatic exchange and reports accounts of foreign tax residents to their home country. The bank records the tax residence you declare when you open the account. An Australian account hides nothing from another country's tax authority.
