The National Innovation Visa (subclass 858, formerly the Global Talent Visa) is an Australian immigration program for people with internationally recognized achievements. The program was updated in 2025, but its essence stayed the same: permanent residence straight away for outstanding specialists.

Legal grounds

The subclass 858 visa is governed by Australian migration rules and grants permanent residency straight away, with no intermediate stages.

Key requirements

  • Outstanding achievements. A level clearly above the industry average and significant on the international stage - in your profession, sport, the arts or science.
  • Benefit to Australia. You need to show that your talent will contribute to the country's economy, science or culture.
  • Employability and demand. Proof that you are ready to put your talent to work in Australia - a job offer or the ability to run a business.
  • Nomination. A nominator with an Australian reputation is mandatory - an Australian citizen or resident, a New Zealand citizen, or an organization with a national reputation in your field. The nominator completes Form 1000.
  • English. Functional English at a minimum (for example, IELTS 4.5 or above). You can apply without it, but you will have to pay the second instalment of the visa fee.
  • Character and health checks. A medical examination and a police clearance certificate.

There are no age limits. If you do not have an established public profile yet, your portfolio may need extra work - on a consultation we assess your chances honestly.

Benefits of the National Innovation Visa

PR with no intermediate stages

As soon as the visa is approved, you and your family become permanent residents of Australia - with no temporary visas or transitional statuses.

Move with the whole family

You can include a spouse or partner and children in the application. They all get the same permanent resident rights - education, healthcare and work.

Healthcare, education and benefits

Access to Medicare, subsidized medicines under the PBS, free state schools and reduced university fees on a par with citizens.

Independence from employers

You need no employer, no sponsor and no large investment. Only your personal achievements and potential are assessed.

How to get the Australian talent visa: step by step

Assess your chances

You check how well your achievements match the criteria - English level, health and a clean criminal record.

Find a nominator

You find an expert or an organization with an Australian reputation in your field who is ready to complete nomination Form 1000.

Expression of Interest (EOI)

You file an online application describing your achievements, with documents and your nominator's details. Then you wait for an invitation from the Department of Home Affairs.

Collect the documents

You gather your passport, evidence of achievements, the nomination letter, proof of English, medical certificates and a police clearance.

Lodge the visa and get a decision

Once invited, you lodge the Subclass 858 application through ImmiAccount, pay the fee and wait for a decision - usually 1-3 months.
