The main taxes in Spain

Personal income tax is charged on a progressive scale of 19-47%. Tax residents pay it on their worldwide income, non-residents only on income earned in Spain.

Corporate income tax

Companies that are Spanish tax residents pay corporate tax on their worldwide income, foreign companies only on income from Spanish sources. The general rate is 25%. Newly incorporated companies get a reduced rate of 15%.

VAT

The standard VAT rate is 21%. Reduced rates of 10% and 4% apply to certain categories of goods and services.

Social security contributions

Employees pay a social security contribution of 6.35% of their salary.

Property transfer tax

On the purchase of property the rate is 5-11% depending on the region.

Gift and inheritance tax
