Personal accounts: Spain

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can I open a Spanish bank account without residency?
Yes, there is a dedicated non-resident account, the cuenta de no residente. You need a certificate of non-residency, or authorisation for the bank to request it, plus a passport and proof of income. Fees on these accounts are usually higher than on resident ones.
What documents does a non-resident need for a Spanish bank account?
A passport, an NIE or non-residency certificate, proof of your home address and evidence of where your money comes from - employment contract, tax return, statements from another bank. The clearer the source of funds, the faster the decision.
Can I open a Spanish bank account online from abroad?
Traditional banks almost always want you in a branch at least once. Some digital banks and payment providers issue a Spanish IBAN online, but their product range is thinner and things like mortgages are out of reach.
Does Spain report bank accounts to other countries?
Yes. Spain applies CRS and EU-wide exchange of tax information, so details of the holder, balances and income go to your country of tax residence. Being a non-resident does not remove your duty to declare the account at home.
