Spain is one of Europe's largest and most mature property markets: Madrid and Barcelona in the capital segment, plus the resort coasts and islands. Foreigners can buy property freely; all a transaction requires is an NIE foreigner identification number. One important recent change: the famous golden visa for property purchases from 500,000 euros was closed in April 2025, and buying a home in Spain no longer grants a residence permit. The market remains in demand on its own merits - climate, infrastructure, deep rental demand and a well-understood legal system.
