Podgorica is an administrative capital without a postcard centre; the city was heavily damaged in the war and rebuilt. A couple of hours covers Stara Varos, the Millennium Bridge and the cathedral, plus a museum. Its real value is as a base - Skadar Lake, the canyons and the coast are all an hour or two away.

Best time to visit Podgorica?

Spring and autumn are the comfortable seasons, roughly April to June and September to October. In summer Podgorica is one of the hottest cities in Europe, with July and August regularly pushing 35 to 40C and the city feeling airless. Winter is mild but wet.

Is Montenegro cheap?
