Business accounts: British Virgin Islands (BVI)

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a BVI company open a bank account in the BVI?
Realistically no. Only a handful of banks operate on the islands and they mostly serve local residents and local businesses; a non-resident company with foreign owners is almost never accepted. The normal pattern is to incorporate in the BVI and bank somewhere else.
Where do BVI companies actually bank?
Usually with banks or payment institutions in the UAE, Singapore, Hong Kong, Switzerland or Mauritius, and less often in the EU. What decides it is the real business - counterparties, contracts, turnover, transparent ownership - not the company's jurisdiction. Some banks decline BVI structures outright as a risk class.
What do banks ask a BVI company for?
A full corporate pack with a certificate of good standing, registers of directors and members, ownership down to individuals, a commercial rationale, contracts and invoices, and evidence of economic substance compliance where the activity is in scope. Answering just holding company will not get you through.
Should I use a payment institution instead of a bank?
EMIs are often the practical answer: faster onboarding, clear requirements, usable payment details. The trade-offs are limits, no credit or deposits, and the risk of a freeze that takes a long time to resolve. Running a large business on an EMI as your only account is risky.
