Business accounts: Cabo Verde

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a company open a bank account in Cabo Verde?
Yes. The banking sector is small but functional: you normally register a local company, obtain a tax number (NIF) and open the account at a branch. A foreign entity with no local structure has few options. Documents must be in Portuguese or come with a certified translation.
Do I need a local director or address?
A registered address in the country is mandatory. There is no blanket residency requirement for directors of an ordinary company, but the bank wants a local representative and a business it understands. Tourism, real estate, fisheries and energy projects get through more easily than generic consulting.
What does the bank ask for and how long does it take?
Incorporation documents, the company NIF, passports and address proof for the owners, a business description and source of funds. Timing depends on the branch and on how complete your file is, and there is rarely a way to speed it up. Approval is not guaranteed.
How well do international payments work?
The escudo is pegged to the euro, so euro-area settlements are fairly predictable. Correspondent networks are small, though, and USD payments can be slower and more expensive. Companies trading internationally often keep a second account in the EU.
