Personal accounts: Cabo Verde

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a foreigner open a bank account in Cabo Verde?
Yes. Banks do open accounts for foreigners, especially where there is property, residency or a diaspora connection, since the country has long handled emigrant remittances. You need a passport, a tax number (NIF) and a branch visit. Fully remote opening is rare.
How do I get a NIF?
You apply at the tax office with your passport, often through a local representative or lawyer. Without a NIF you cannot open an account, buy property or set up utilities. It is the first step, not a closing formality.
What is the minimum balance and what does it cost?
The entry bar is low compared with offshore jurisdictions and a basic account is accessible. The costs show up in international transfers, card fees and currency conversion. Tariffs differ by bank, so check before you commit.
What about information exchange and taxes?
Cabo Verde has been moving towards international transparency standards, but the reach of automatic exchange is narrower than in the EU and the current status is worth verifying when you open. Either way, declaring the account under the rules of your country of tax residence remains your responsibility.
