Personal accounts: Japan

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can I open a Japanese bank account without a visa?
No. A normal account requires a residence card and a valid status of residence. Tourists are not accepted.
How long do I have to live in Japan to open an account?
Some banks open an account as soon as you register your address, others expect around six months of residence, especially before allowing international transfers. There is no single rule, it depends on the bank.
Do I need a personal seal (hanko) for a Japanese bank account?
Many banks accept a signature from foreign customers, but some branches still ask for a seal. Check before you go so you do not have to come back twice.
Does Japan exchange bank account information?
Yes, Japan applies CRS and reports to partner jurisdictions. You confirm your tax residence when the account is opened.
