Personal accounts: Liberia

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a foreigner open a bank account in Liberia?
In practice accounts go to people who live or work in the country: company staff, missions, NGOs and project teams. A non-resident with no presence in Liberia will almost certainly be refused. Remote onboarding for foreigners is not realistic.
What currencies do Liberian banks use?
Both the Liberian dollar and the US dollar circulate, and accounts are often held in both. Access to US dollar cash and to outbound transfers varies by bank and by period. Check withdrawal and transfer limits before you open anything.
Can I open a Liberian account remotely?
Essentially no. Identification is done in person, and the bank will want a passport, a local address and documents explaining your presence in the country. Treat any intermediary promising remote opening with scepticism.
Is it safe to keep money in a Liberian bank?
The sector is small, depositor protection is weak, and the region has seen episodes of liquidity and cash shortages. An account works for day to day life on the ground, not for savings or holding capital. Larger balances belong in a jurisdiction with a stable banking system.
