Personal accounts: Latvia

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a personal account in Latvia?
EU citizens and residence permit holders are onboarded fairly routinely. Non-residents from third countries are taken rarely and only with a clear reason: work, studies, property or a business in Latvia. No bank is obliged to open an EU account just for parking money, and most will not.
Do I need a residence permit or a local address?
A permit is not a legal requirement, but it removes most of the questions and often decides the outcome. Without one the bank will ask for your address, tax residence and why you want the account in Latvia specifically. The weaker the link to the country, the higher the chance of a no.
How do I prove source of funds?
You need documents behind the money: income statements, tax returns, sale agreements for assets, dividend or inheritance paperwork. A balance screenshot and a verbal explanation will not do - the bank wants the chain from earning the money to holding it. The larger the amount, the deeper the review.
Is a Latvian account reported under CRS?
Yes. Latvia is in the EU and part of automatic exchange of information, so account data goes to your country of tax residence every year. Latvia is not a way to hide an account from your home tax authority, and it should not be planned as one.
