Personal accounts: Mauritius

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can I open a personal account in Mauritius without residency?
Yes, several banks work with non residents, but this is not retail banking - it is a wealth segment with a minimum balance and maintenance fees. You will need a passport, proof of address, income and source of funds documents, sometimes a reference. Each bank decides on its own and may decline without giving reasons.
Do I have to travel to Mauritius in person?
Usually yes, at least once for signing and identification. Some banks accept remote onboarding through a management company, a notary or certified copies of documents. Do not expect a fully online neobank-style process.
Is there a minimum balance?
Non resident accounts almost always carry one, and the bank quotes it individually depending on the account type and client profile. Falling below the threshold triggers fees, and dormant accounts can be closed. Check the tariff sheet before you file, not after.
Does Mauritius exchange data under CRS?
Yes, Mauritius participates in CRS automatic exchange and in FATCA. When you open the account you sign a self-certification of tax residence, and your balances are reported to that country. A Mauritius account is a tool for cross-border business, not a hiding place.
