Personal accounts: Mexico

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a tourist open a bank account in Mexico?
Realistically no. Nearly all banks require legal immigration status - residente temporal or permanente - plus a CURP. A tourist card will normally not get you an account, and intermediaries promising a workaround usually end in a refusal or a closed account later.
What do I need to open an account with residency?
Your resident card, CURP, an RFC for many products, a comprobante de domicilio no older than three months (utility bill, internet bill or a bank statement in your name) and your passport. You must attend a branch in person. If you rent, sort out a utility bill in your name or a lease first - without a provable address nothing moves.
Can I open a USD account in Mexico?
For individuals, USD accounts are limited and mostly offered in border and tourist areas, and cash dollar transactions are tightly capped under anti-money-laundering rules. The working currency is the peso and most products are peso-only. Plan your currency conversions in advance.
Does Mexico report accounts under CRS?
Yes, Mexico takes part in CRS automatic exchange and in FATCA. You declare your tax residence when opening the account and your balances are reported to that country. If you become a Mexican tax resident, Mexican filing obligations on worldwide income follow.
