Business accounts: Mauritius

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non resident open a corporate account in Mauritius?
Yes - Mauritius is a functioning international financial centre and accounts for foreign-owned structures are routine. Applications almost always go through a licensed management company that administers the entity and deals with the bank. Without such an administrator most banks will not even start reviewing a non resident file.
Do I need a local director in Mauritius?
For a Global Business Company, yes: resident directors, a local office, accounting, audit and board meetings held in Mauritius are required. An Authorised Company has lighter requirements but is treated as non resident for tax and banks view it differently. The form you choose drives both treaty access and how the bank sees the file.
What does compliance ask for in Mauritius?
Corporate documents, ownership chain up to the beneficial owner, passports and proof of address, a description of the business and counterparties, expected turnover and currencies, and source of funds. Since leaving the FATF and EU lists in 2021-2022 Mauritius has tightened onboarding and guards its reputation. Expect detailed questions, especially on Africa, India and Middle East flows.
How long does it take to open the account?
Typically several weeks once a complete file is submitted, longer for structures involving trusts or multiple ownership layers. Directors and signatories are usually asked to complete video identification, and sometimes to visit. No one can promise a date - the decision sits with the bank.
