Personal accounts: Norway

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a bank account in Norway?
Realistically no. Identification requires a Norwegian national identity number or a D-number, and you only get one if you have a reason to be in the system - work, study, property, tax obligations. Without that basis the bank cannot register you at all.
What is a D-number and why do I need one?
It is a temporary identification number for people who are not permanently registered in Norway but have business there. It is requested by an employer, a school or the bank itself, depending on your situation, and without it you cannot get BankID, the key to every digital service including banking.
Do I have to show up in person to open a Norwegian account?
Yes. Even if you start online, identification is done face to face with your passport. A fully remote route for a foreigner with no Norwegian history is not something to plan around.
Will my home country find out about my Norwegian account?
Yes. Norway participates in CRS and reports non-resident accounts to the country of tax residence. Norwegian banks are also persistent about refreshing customer files and can freeze activity if you ignore their questions about your tax status.
