US green card by investment

The United States is the largest economy in the world, with a population of around 270 million people. An investor who puts money into a targeted project or their own business and creates jobs can get a green card under the EB-5 program.
Legal basis
To get a US green card under the EB-5 program, the investor has to meet one of two conditions:
- Invest from $800,000 in a targeted regional center project in a rural area or an area with high unemployment.
- Invest from $1.05 million in a business project of their own.
In both cases the investment has to create at least 10 jobs for a period of 2 years or more. You also have to document the lawful origin of the money you invest.
How the process works
First the investor files an EB-5 visa petition with a business plan and proof of the investment. The petition takes 12-18 months to review. Once it is approved, the investor receives a temporary green card for 2 years: during this period the jobs have to be preserved and you cannot leave the country for more than 6 months. After 2 years, if the investment is still working and the requirements have been met, you can apply for a permanent green card.
