Best time to visit Oslo?

Late May through August gives long daylight, open terraces and boats out to the fjord islands - the city at its best. September and early October bring good autumn colour and fewer visitors. Winter is dark and cold, but that is when skiing at Holmenkollen and long museum days make sense.

How many days in Oslo?

Two or three days cover the headline sights: the Opera House, Vigeland Park, the Viking ships and the National Museum. A fourth day is worth it for a fjord trip or a walk in the Nordmarka forest. The centre is compact and easy on foot with short transit hops.

Is Oslo expensive?

Oslo is one of the most expensive cities in Europe - restaurant meals, taxis and alcohol are where budgets break. The usual workarounds are supermarket food, a day transit pass and free time along the waterfront and in the parks. Museum tickets are moderate by Norwegian standards, and the Oslo Pass only pays off on a packed schedule.
