FAQ

Can a foreigner open a company account in Croatia?
Yes, and it is one of the more accessible options in the EU: once your d.o.o. is registered, the bank opens the account provided the company and the director both have an OIB. Croatia is in the euro area and SEPA, so you get standard European payment details. The director normally has to visit a branch in person.
Does the director have to be a Croatian resident?
There is no residency requirement for directors, and a foreigner can be both owner and director. However, a non-EU director who actually works in Croatia needs a residence and work permit. The bank separately assesses how clear the company's connection to the country is.
What does the bank ask a newly formed company?
The court register extract, the OIB, beneficial owner details that also go into the UBO register, a description of the business, expected turnover and main counterparties. The EU-wide AML regime applies, so source of capital has to be documented. Banks dislike companies with no real activity.
How long does opening a company account take?
With a complete file, usually days to a couple of weeks; delays typically come from verifying non-resident beneficial owners. Foreign-language documents need a certified court translation. If you are refused, the practical route is another bank, or an EU payment institution as a stopgap.
