Business accounts: Dominican Republic

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a company account in the Dominican Republic?
Yes, provided the company is locally incorporated, entered in the commercial registry and holds an RNC tax number. Foreign ownership is allowed, but the bank will require full disclosure down to the beneficial owners. Opening an account for a foreign company with no local registration is effectively impossible.
Do I need a local director for a Dominican company account?
Dominican companies can be fully foreign-owned and a resident director is not required by law. In practice banks are far more comfortable when a signatory holds a local ID (cedula) and a local address. It speeds up both onboarding and day-to-day servicing.
What does the bank check when a company applies?
Incorporation papers, the RNC, ownership details, a description of the activity, expected turnover and the origin of the invested capital. Bank and commercial reference letters are usually requested. Cash-heavy businesses and higher-risk sectors such as real estate, tourism and currency exchange get extra scrutiny.
Do I have to visit in person to open a company account?
Usually yes - signatories attend a branch, and remote onboarding for new corporate clients is rare. A local lawyer can prepare much of the file in advance under power of attorney, but identification is done face to face. Budget a few days for the trip.
