South Africa is the most developed property market in Africa. Foreigners can buy real estate with full ownership rights and no special permits, and the deeds registry system is considered reliable. The main destinations are Cape Town, with its resort and lifestyle properties, and business-driven Johannesburg. South Africa has no residency or citizenship by real estate programs, and the obvious risk is rand volatility, which has to be built into any calculation in dollars or euros. That said, for its combination of openness to foreigners and quality of the legal system, this is one of the few genuinely workable markets on the continent.
