Personal accounts: Cayman Islands

An honest assessment before work starts, the quote is fixed in writing.

We assess your chances against your profile, prepare the compliance file, help you present your source of funds properly and handle communication with the bank until it decides. The final decision always rests with the bank, so no one can guarantee an opening - careful preparation simply improves the odds.

We quote the exact cost for this country after a short consultation: it depends on the bank and your residency. The quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

FAQ

Can a non-resident open a personal account in the Cayman Islands?
In practice, almost never. Retail banking here is built for residents and work-permit holders, while non-residents are handled mainly through private banking with a high entry threshold. Without local status or serious capital, do not count on getting an account.
Do I need residency or a work permit?
For an everyday account, effectively yes: banks ask for proof of your status on the islands, a local address and often an employer letter. Private banking plays by different rules, but that route involves substantial sums. Requirements vary by bank and are assessed case by case.
Is the account taxed and is it reported?
The Cayman Islands levy no income or capital gains tax, but that does not release you from tax where you are resident. The jurisdiction participates in CRS, so account data goes to your home tax authority. A Cayman account has not been a hiding place for a long time.
Can I open the account remotely?
Usually not: expect a video meeting or an in-person visit plus certified documents, often apostilled. Using an intermediary does not turn it into a one-click remote process. Ongoing account fees here are noticeably higher than average.
